Take a look at what netizen Iris Mendoza shared on her Facebook page: a trashed ATM, littered with receipts.

With the holiday rush now in swing, surely everyone is cashing out from their accounts, buying ingredients for noche buena, as well as wrapping gifts for their loved ones. But while the heavy traffic and shopping craze is enough to drive anyone into a frenzy, let’s not forget to do our own little part in being responsible enough to keep our surroundings clean.

Iris shared the photo below of an ATM in Cubao, with a horde of receipts littering the area:

The caption accompanied the photo:

Yung ganitong klaseng disiplina at pagiisip ba, kailangan pa natin si Duterte para maitama? Ikaw na lang to eh. Mahiya ka sa sarili mo, Pinoy, kung isa ka sa mga hindi marunong magbulsa ng maliit (kahit malaki) na kalat. With or without a trash can.

Iris also later edited the caption, adding this:

Edit: Guys, I appreciate the Likes and Shares and comments. It just goes to show that there is still hope in the Philippines because there are people who know that this kind of behavior is unacceptable.

BUT, it would be so much more appreciated if you can also begin calling out behavior like this when you can (nicely and politely, of course). Change can really happen when we cause people to change also. 👍🏻

According to Iris, the lack of a trash can is not an excuse to just throw your trash around, as the receipt is small enough to stuff in your pocket, or hold on to a bit before disposing it in the nearest bin.

While we all clamor for change, this kind of change and discipline starts within ourselves, and by making sure others follow suit.
