When in Manila, there are so many salons that compete for customers. Because of negative experiences I’ve had before, I have become skeptical and very choosy with the salons I visit. One simple trip could ruin your hair’s color, or could give you a haircut you’d later regret! The worst part is you actually pay and spend hours in cramped salons with a pungent smell of chemicals—just to have someone “ruin” your crowning glory. During these times, I often wonder—why fix something that isn’t broken?
Of course, not all salons I’ve visited are like these. There are less than five salons that I’ve come to trust. So far, my favorite among all of them is Margaret and Charles Salon in BGC. Here are five reasons why it converted me from a salon sceptic to someone who’s actually excited for my next salon visit!
5.) Ambiance: the place is very beautiful and comfortable.
The whole place is well-lit and well-ventilated. When Ms. Baby Revilla gave me a tour, I noticed it did not feel like most of the salons I had visited. It smelled so much like a spa. Because of all the chemicals that are used, most salons would have pungent smells that are unhealthy and uncomfortable both for the staff and the customers. To solve this, their exhaust system is attached to the main exhaust of the building.
Just check out those perfectly lined towels! It simply shows how much attention to detail the staff has.
The ambiance was very peaceful and relaxing. The staff was also informative, yet was not overly intrusive. The loudest sound you’d hear would be the hair dryer. Other than that, you would only hear classical playlist in the background.
When you visit the salon, do not look for Margaret and Charles. There is nobody named Margaret or Charles in the salon’s management. The owners decided on this name because there are always people named Margaret and Charles in every royal family. This suits the Victorian-inspired designs of the place, and the goal of the salon is: to give you pampering like royalty. They also made sure to include a “Charles” in the name to let the public know that this salon is also very much open to male customers as well. This is where the customers are comfortably seated.
Apart from the salon’s main holding area, a private room is also available.
This private room seats two people.
They also offer waxing services in a private room.
Everything is neat, tidy, and very well-organized.
4.) Service: they pamper you like royalty.
The staff was friendly and professional. The senior hairstylist, Mr. Leo Pascual, made sure to really understand the customer’s desired look. He was confidently knowledgeable and gave helpful tips on the latest hair colors and hairstyles.
Ms. Baby Revilla told me that they want to be known for not having junior hairstylists. All of their hairstylists and makeup artists are seniors who have had commendable experiences. That way, their artistic and technical skills ensure that their customers do not become mere guinea pigs.
3.) Products: they use only reputable brands and they DON’T mix their products.
They show you what products they use on you. My mom tried their Keratherapy Treatment. She also had her hair colored. I was able to see what products they used on her hair. As a customer, I find this to be very reassuring.
2.) Price
1.) Results
Great service, great ambiance, affordable rates, and even reputable products would barely matter if the result of your salon trip is disappointing. Before we went to Margaret and Charles, my mom’s hair was dry and frizzy. It took so much time to blow-dry it everyday. Despite this, her hair looked messy in the afternoon.
The photo above shows her roots and how dry and unhealthy it looks (even if it was just blow-dried). The photo below shows her hair after leaving the salon. The strands look shinier and healthier. The color really suits her, too.
We were both satisfied with the results because a week after the service, her hair is still as healthy, shiny, and manageable as ever.
If you’re tired of salons that fail to meet your high standards, try Margaret and Charles Salon!
