Electronic Messages (E-mail) Inventor, Ray Tomlinson Passes Away at 74

Another brilliant mind has joined the heavens.

The person who invented emails (electronic messaging) and “@” sign has died at the age of 74. According to CNN and BBC, the brilliant inventor died due to an apparent heart attack last Saturday (March 5). (Source: BBC)

Ray, who was a computer programmer, came up with the idea of direct email messages in 1971. He was working for a Boston technology firm in 1971 when he figured out a way for people to send messages via computer. As described by CNN, Ray Tomlinson was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and MIT.

Many have paid tribute and one of them is what is widely used as the email account, Gmail.

Mr. Ray Tomlinson was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2012.

Rest In Paradise, Sir Tomlinson. Thank you for making our lives easier. Your ingenuity helped everyone to be more productive and creative.
