If you own a car and drive around Manila, I’m pretty sure you’ve felt pissed or frustrated more than once because of the crazy traffic and motorists who simply ignore traffic rules. Jeeps and buses can also be common problems when on the road. However, it would be wrong for us to generalize and assume that just because he is a jeepney driver, he is the one that’s wrong.
Vince S. shares this story of Mang Henry, a jeepney driver who was physically abused by another motorist over a minor misunderstanding.

Si Henry Fernandez or Fernando po yung nasa picture. Driver ng Jeep. (I’m not sure kung tama yung apelyido medyo hilo na kasi si manong nung tinanong ko tsaka di ko makita yung ID nya sa jeep).
Eto ang scenario. Binabagtas nung jeep na sinasakyan ko (Si manong yung driver) yung tapat ng Puregold nang biglang nalang mag u-turn yung car na TOYOTA VIOS ata na kulay silver at may plate number na AAW 5042. Napaiwas at napapreno si manong pero di naman sya tumama. Huminto yung car at bumaba si kuya na malaki katawan na medyo maitim. Beast mode sya na pilit hinatak pababa si manong driver na sinasabi na nagasgasan daw yung kotse nya. Napunit pa yung damit ni manong. So si manong bumaba na medyo kalmado padin kasi siguro iniisip nya nasagi nya talaga. Tinignan nila yung kotse pero ang mali sa tinuturo ng driver ng car e yung kabilang side ata. Tapos sinilip ko yung tatamaan dapat wala naman gasgas at medyo malayo pa sya. Napansin ko rin na di umiilaw yung signal ng car. Kaya I think may mali rin sya kasi bigla nalang syang nag u-turn. Hanggang sa nagulat nalang ako sinuntok nya si manong na wala namang ginagawa kundi nakikipag-usap lang. Sa bandang tenga tinamaan si manong tapos na-shock nalang ako nung may tumutulo nang dugo sa damit ni manong habang pabalik ng jeep. Si kuyang nasa car naman bigla syang harurot ng drive pa-south (pa-monumento). Tumakas sya.
Ayun pag tingin ko kay Manong putok talaga yung sa may bandang sentido nya. Malaki yung tama. Di ko alam kung ano pinansuntok kung may singsing o may asero. Tinawag namin yung traffic enforcer na malapit dun then pina-radio yung sasakyan sinubukan pang ipaharang (Di ko na alam nangyari). Then tumawag din kami ng rescue at the same time. Inantay ko nalang din na dumating yung rescue at mga kinauukulan para makapagbigay ako ng pahayag at masiguradong safe si manong bago ako umalis. May pasok pa kasi ako sa trabaho.
Sa totoo lang shock ako sa nangyari kasi tingin ko kay kuya parang sinapian ng demonyo. Kalmado naman si manong driver na kinausap ka pero ganun ginawa mo sa kanya. Naghahanap buhay yung tao. Ano na ngayon? Ilang araw ding di makakapag-hanap buhay si manong. Masyado kang mayabang. Di ko alam kung may pinagmamalaki ka, siguro may kapit ka kasi ganun kalakas loob mong manakit nalang ng ibang tao. Kasama mo pa naman ata asawa’t anak mo sa kotse. Kaya siguro di nadin sila pumigil dahil takot din sila sayo.

Henry Fernandez or Fernando is the man in the picture. A jeepney driver. (I’m not sure if I got his surname right, he was already very dizzy when I asked him and I couldn’t see his ID)
This was the scenario. The jeep I was riding was journeying through across Puregold when a silver Toyota Vios with plate number AAW 5042 suddenly made a u-turn. Mang Henry quickly stepped on the breaks and made a turn to avoid hitting the car. He did not hit the car. The car on the other hand stopped and the driver got off. He was a little dark with a strong built. He turned Beast ode and forcefully pulled Mang Henry out of the jeepney, claiming his car was damaged. Mang Henry’s shirt was torn in the process.
So Mang Henry got off the jeep, he looked calm, probably thinking that he might have really hit the guy’s car. They both looked at the car but it seemed as though the driver was pointing to the wrong side of the car. Then I took a peek, there shouldn’t be a scratch since the jeep was far from the car. I also noticed the car’s signal was not on, so I think the car driver was also wrong since he was the one who suddenly made a u-turn. I was taken by surprise when the driver just suddenly punched Mang Henry who wasn’t doing anything but calmly talking. He hit him near the ear and I was shocked as blood started trickling down Mang Hentry’s clothes as he walked back to the jeep. The car driver quickly got in his car and sped up southband (toward Monument0). He escaped.
When I checked on Mang Henry, there was a deep cut near his ear. I’m not sure if the car driver had a ring or some sort of steel. We quickly called the traffic enforcer and tried to find the Vios (I don’t know what happened). Then we called a rescue team. I waited for help to arrive so I could give my side of the story and to ensure Mang Henry’s safety before I left for work.
In all honesty, I was shocked by the whole incident. It’s as if the car driver was possessed by a devil. Mang Henry was calm when he spoke you, yet this is what happened. The jeepney driver is simply working hard to earn a living. Now what? He will not be able to work for several days because of what you did to him. You are too arrogant. I am not sure if you are trying to show off, to think you had your wife and kids in the car with you. I guess they couldn’t stop you because they were also afraid of you.
