The hopes of the Filipino people to have a strong arm of a leader were shattered when he announced through his letter that he won’t be running for Presidency anymore.
In his letter addressed to his friends and fellow Dabawenyos, he mentioned that “The country does not need me. I find no need for it. I guess it is fate that wills that our long journey together should end this way.”
Apparently, circulating on social media is an announcement he made yesterday about his “desire to run for presidency.” His alleged decision happened during a private party in Cavite.

According to news reports, the reason behind the tough Mayor’s decision to run again was he couldn’t take someone aiming for the highest position in the country, who only possessed “presumptive Filipino citizenship.” Incidentally, he was referring to independent presidential candidate Grace Poe, who was accused of citizenship issues.
For the benefit of everyone, here are the eligibility requirements to become a president, senator, among others:
- at least 40 years old and above
- a registered voter, single or married
- able to read and write
- a Filipino citizen by birth
- a resident of the Philippines for at least ten years
Evidently, Poe was an adopted child of former actor, Fernando Poe Jr. and actress Susan Roces. They’ve concluded that she isn’t a natural born Filipino, which is a critical requirement for the presidency.
However, as mentioned in other reports, when Duterte was asked if he will finally file the candidacy on Monday, he answered: “Not yet. I have to make the rounds to fill in the gaps.”
Netizens, on the other hand, also showed mixed reactions on Duterte’s announcement yesterday.
